Caring For Your Air Plants
Watering: There are two ways to water your air plant, Misting: Mist the leaves of your air plant 1-2 times per week Soaking: Submerge in water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes a week. Allow plant to dry before placing back into its display.
Blooming Plant Watering: Most air plants only bloom once in their lifetime. Most bloom between mid-winter and mid-summer. Plants in bloom should be rinsed or misted rather than soaked to protect the delicate flowers.
Light: Air plants need bright indirect sunlight or fluorescent lighting in an office. Keep them away from direct sunlight. If you want to display your plant in a window, choose an east or north facing window.
Propagation: Air plants produce offshoots called pups. Pups are separate and distinct plants but will need ample time attached to its parent to become stable. When the pup grows to at least 1/3 the size of the parent, it can be removed by gently pulling it apart from the parent plant. Each pup will grow into a parent plant, bloom and produce its own pups.
Temperature: Air plants prefer temps around the 70's but can tolerate temps as low as the mid 60's and as high as the low 90's. Please keep plants away from extreme cold and heat.
Fertilization: Fertilizing is not necessary but it will encourage growth and vitality and promote blooms. You can fertilize your plants once a month with bromeliad fertilizer. Other fertilizers contain elevated levels of copper which in large doses is toxic to your air plant.
